BBC News: The girl who named a planet

This article conclusively shows that girl who came up with the name Pluto for the planet did not in fact name it after the Disney dog, she named it after the Roman god of the underworld. The dog was subsequently named after the planet. Well that's another urban myth scotched then. Doggone.

And your super (useless) bit of trivia question is: what was another famous PLUTO used during the 1940s?

Nope, not the cartoon dog. Give up? It was the device the Allies used to get fuel over to Normandy after D-Day: Pipeline Under The Ocean. Told you it was useless, but it is a PLUTO!!! :-)

Your bonus trivia is that cartoon Pluto's best mate, Goofy, was the inspiration for the voice of Eccles in the Goon Show. Gee, I am a fund of useless trivia tonight.
